Frequently Asked Questions

At Happy Campers Pediatric Dentistry, we believe every child deserves a healthy, happy smile — and that starts with keeping parents informed and confident. We're here to answer all your questions about your child's dental health, what to expect during visits, and how to make the most of their care. Whether you're a new patient family or just exploring your options, we warmly welcome your questions and can't wait to meet your little one!

When should my child first visit the dentist?

We recommend scheduling your child's first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth appearing — whichever comes first! Early visits help us monitor your child's development, catch any concerns early, and most importantly, help your little one get comfortable with the dental office in a fun, low-pressure environment. Starting young sets the foundation for a lifetime of great oral health.

How often should my child come in for checkups and cleanings?

Most children benefit from a checkup and professional cleaning every six months. These routine visits let us keep an eye on their growing teeth, remove any buildup, and apply preventive treatments like fluoride or sealants when needed. Some kids with a higher risk of cavities or other concerns may need to visit more frequently — we'll work with you to determine the schedule that's best for your child.

What if my child is nervous about coming to the dentist?

Dental anxiety in children is completely normal, and our entire team is specially trained to help kids feel safe, relaxed, and even excited about their visits! We take a gentle, patient-centered approach and never rush little ones. We also offer sedation options for children who need extra support to feel comfortable. Our goal is for every child to leave with a smile — and actually look forward to coming back!

How can I help my child prevent cavities at home?

Great habits at home make a big difference! Brush your child's teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a small, age-appropriate amount of fluoride toothpaste. Once teeth start touching, it's time to floss daily too. Limiting sugary snacks and drinks — especially between meals — and drinking plenty of water also helps keep cavities away. We're always happy to walk you through the best techniques for your child's age at your next visit.

What should I do if my child chips or knocks out a tooth?

Dental injuries can be scary, but we're here to help! If your child knocks out a permanent tooth, keep it moist — place it back in the socket if possible, or in a cup of milk — and call us immediately. For a chipped or broken tooth, rinse the mouth with warm water and contact our office right away. We understand that dental emergencies don't follow a schedule, so we make every effort to see injured children on the same day they call.

Do you accept dental insurance for pediatric visits?

We want every family to have access to the dental care their child needs without added financial stress. We participate in many dental insurance plans and accept others toward full or partial payment. Our friendly team will help you understand your benefits, maximize your coverage, and minimize out-of-pocket costs. We also offer flexible payment options and can help explore additional assistance programs if needed.

How can I schedule an appointment for my child?

Booking is easy! You can call our office during business hours or use our convenient online scheduling system on our website. We look forward to welcoming your family and helping your child shine with a healthy smile!
